Kings Island Amusement Park: King for 50 Years

Kings Island Amusement Park: King for 50 Years

Opening in 1972 in Mason, Ohio, Kings Island is celebrating its 50th anniversary. When it opened, the park had 60 attractions; today it has over 100. Its history has been celebrated before, with the return of the classic Kings Mills Antique Autos back in 2019, which allowed visitors the ability to drive an antique vehicle through lush gardens. However, that same year, another classic, the Vortex, was retired. Recent newcomers include 2019's Miami River Brew House serving craft beers; 2020's Orion giga roller coaster; and the retheming of the area around the giant coaster as Area 72, including a new restaurant called the Meteor Canteen. The following year, Kings Island Camp Cedar luxury resort opened north of the park, offering guests both an RV resort and luxury lodging; The Racer was also refurbished in 2021, adding 500-feet of track. ...   [read more]

Morey's Piers and Waterparks Continues Sustainability Commitment

Morey's Piers and Waterparks Continues Sustainability Commitment

Morey's Piers and Waterparks continues to expand its solar footprint.  On June 2nd, the company and its fans performed their own take on a classic “ribbon cutting” with an event they called Cutting the Cord. It marked a celebration of the parks' latest solar array,  1,050 of SunPower's 435-watt panels. The panels were placed on the roof of the park's newest parking structure. Installed by Geoscape Solar, the panels add to already existing solar projects on the pier by creating renewable energy for the pier's amusements. According to Joe Cleary, the V.P. and CFO at Morey's, the amusement park began its investment in and commitment to solar energy back in 2018. “This recent investment continues to signify how Morey's has continued its commitment to improve sustainability and conservation on and off its ...   [read more]

Today, Rhode Island Novelty, one of the largest plus and plush and novelty distributors in the US, sent an email to its customers announcing price reductions on incoming imports.  The e-mail stated: "After see-sawing most of the summer, ocean freight costs are on a solid downward trend, and we expect this to continue through the fall. In August alone, we were able to reduce the pricing on over 300 items as we received them. The average case price decrease on those items was 6.5%. We will continue to review the landed costs on all items as we receive them.  Last December our average container cost from China was almost $20,000 with some containers being in the mid $20's, whereas this past August, the container costs averaged just over $13,000 ($11k-$15k.) Although the current container cost is still significantly higher than our pre-Covid cost of +/- $3,200, we are pleased with the trend.  Aside from the freight space and ocean freight cost challenges, production has ...   [read more]
