Indiana Beach Amusement Park Closed, but New Development Plans Sought

$3 million incentive could attract buyers

Owned by Apex Parks Group, Indiana Beach amusement and waterpark, which recently turned 94, had announced its closing February 18th, but according to White County Economic Development director Randy Mitchell, leaders from the county and Monticello - the location of the park – are actively discussing keeping the park open and operational with Apex. Mitchell notes “a flurry of activity all directed toward keeping the amusement park open and operating.” He said that the hope is to find a buyer for the park.“Along with that, city and county leaders will be actively working to find additional investors by working with the Indiana Beach Amusement and Water Park Resort and Apex Parks Group leadership.” He promised to keep everyone posted on this quest. COVID-19 and the Future of Our Events - A Pandemic Planning Guide

COVID-19 and the Future of Our Events - A Pandemic Planning Guide

A CarnivalWarehouse.com Exclusive Editorial

With the pandemic in full swing in the US, we have had many phone calls and conversations with fairs, carnivals and events over the last week or two, trying to figure out what to do and what others are thinking the future may hold.  We keep coming back to the notion that we are all in this together.  Carnivals, food operators, local businesses, concessionaires, and the general public are all affected by the events we run. We wanted to pass along a few suggestions, thoughts, and observations from our team and many in the industry with whom we have spoken.  We hope these points can serve as a useful guide when deciding the future of your event.   The COVID-19 outbreak has thrown the country and the world at large for a loop.  Mass gatherings have been banned, non-essential businesses have been ordered not to ...   [read more]

UPDATED: H-2B Rule for 35,000 Supplemental Visas On Hold

DHS temporarily reverses decision on supplemental visa release

Amid the COVID-19 crisis that virtually shut down the entire country, many have forgotten about one of the carnival industry's other concerns, the H-2B labor crisis.  After months of pleading the Department of Homeland Security for supplemental visas to be released, on March 5, 2020 the DHS committed to releasing 35,000 additional visas in two batches.  Unfortunately, once the Coronavirus pandemic hit, much of DHS' focus was put on the crisis at hand, not the release of additional H-2B visas.  Some worried if it would even happen amidst the crisis.  On March 25, the additional H-2B visa rule for the supplemental visas was submitted to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs for review.  This rule contains the guidelines for filing and worker eligibility.  Once the rule is published, capped out employers will be able to file for the visas.  On April 2, Fox News Tucker Carlson criticized the Trump administration and the DHS for releasing ...   [read more]

On March 24, 2020, Senator Roy Blunt (R-Missouri) addressed federal relief and the impact COVID-19 has had on festivals and fairs.  Senator Blunt is the 4th ranked Representative in the Senate. "We're about to get to the season of the year where people have community festivals and fairs.  The Missouri State Fair, the Ozark Empire Fair, the Carnivals that occur in our state (of Missouri),  the 6-10 month travel destinations like Silver Dollar City, Six Flags, or Worlds of Fun.  If you lose part of that season, that part of the season is lost and you're not going to get that May, June, or April back.  You're not going to tack it on at the end by saying we will just be open in January to make up for the people that would have been at our theme park in June," said Blunt.   Blunt expressed the need to provide federal funding for the industry in part four of the relief package. You can view Blunt's speech in its entirety below (courtesy of the ...   [read more]
