Quassy Amusement Park Brings in the New for it's 116th Year
Quassy Amusement Park is celebrating its 116th season in Middlebury, Connecticut this year. To celebrate, the park has introduced new renovations, a new arcade game, and new restroom facilities, all without raising admission prices for this year.
The arcade game is called Deadeyes Gallery and features a pirate theme. The multi-player electronic shooting gallery game offers players 20 shots for $1.00. The game features over 50 targets. When hit “dead on,” some of them spray water at players. The lively interactive game was created by the U.K.-based company Pan Amusements, but it was purchased from Joyland Park, the Lubbock, Texas amusement park that closed at the end of 2022. The game requires no attendants to operate, and players can use credit, cash, or Quassy cash. In the arcade, along with the new shooting game, guests will find a wide range of redemption games as well as a large-scale laser maze.
While the game makes a bright addition to the park's arcade, the bigger news is the park's renovation of its nostalgic Fieldside Pavilion. The pavilion, originally created in 1937 to house a roller-skating rink, has been redesigned to accommodate as many as 2,000 attendees for events such as birthday parties, reunions, or even weddings. The park spent over $200,000 in improvements and refurbishments ahead of this season, including the revitalization of this pavilion.
The classic venue is an iconic one and the remodel was designed to preserve its heritage, while also replacing the roof and installing new electric lights, air vents, and skylights. It was a much-needed renovation.
Quassy park president Eric Anderson relates that the update not only preserved the park's heritage but brought changes vital for today's needs. “Our decision to enhance the pavilion reflects our commitment to providing memorable experiences for families and groups,” Anderson says, while assuring that “Quassy remains a place where cherished memories are made for generations to come.”
According to Eric Anderson, 25% of the park's typical annual 200,000 visitors arrive at the amusement destination as a group. Along with the pavilion renovations, new restrooms were also added, but that's not all that was new this year: some 300 additional park workers were hired for the season, per human resources director George Frantzis III.
Despite renovation costs, Quassy did not raise its prices this season. Anderson notes that although, “Price hikes have unfortunately become common and necessary across all industries, [however] our decision to maintain consistent pricing ensures every family and group, no matter how large, can enjoy the magic of a fun-filled day at Quassy without breaking the bank.”
Quassy season passes are priced at $99.99, with single day passes at $32, and a combo ticket for both Quassy Amusement Park and its waterpark Splash Away Bay priced at $41.99. Kids and senior single day passes are $26.99; a combo ticket is $36.99, with an additional $5 in savings if currently purchased online.
Last year, the park debuted a new flat ride, the Musik Express, a circular thriller with 20 three-passenger cars connected in a circle, which rotates both forward and backward at a high speed. Other Park highlights include the Wooden Warrior coaster, Fall n' Drop tower, and its historic Grand Carousel. There are over two dozen different attractions at the park in all. The Splash Away Bay waterpark features 16 slides such as Rocket Rapids from ProSlide Technology, a major addition in 2022, as well as its play area for little ones, Saturation Station.
Along with its renovations and additions, Quassy has several special events and promotions planned for this summer, according to a park spokesperson. Through June 21st, the park is offered four complimentary pedal boat tickets or a 30-minute lake tour aboard the Quassy Queen with any weekend beach cabana rentals on Lake Quassapaug.
The park's Wings & Things event will be held June 21, July 18, and August 15. This foodie fun event offers three varieties of chicken wings, hamburgers, hot dogs, and more priced at $32.99 each. Tickets to the event include an evening amusement ride and waterpark combo wristband.
Celebrating Independence Day, the Quassy Blast on the Beach July 4th featured a firework display with 3D elements and special viewing glasses priced at $2. Proceeds from the event benefitted the Give Kids the World Village.
September 21 and 22, the park presents their annual Oktoberfest, replete with live music, and a bevy of German-influenced food items, with discount pre-sales available that include a meal, drink, and all-day ride passes.
With its focus on group activities, Quassy is also offering several different package experiences, such as The Little Dipper for smaller groups, which provides unlimited rides, waterpark admission, and beach time. The Warrior Plan is designed for larger groups, combining amusement park, waterpark, and beach time with an hour of unlimited eats including burgers, fries, hot dogs, and soda added to the mix.
The park's accommodation of group events is matched by their commitment to community with an upcoming event on June 19th, a sensory-friendly Autism Awareness night. For that event, park tickets will be discounted to $15, and free parking provided between the hours of 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. Earlier this season, on its inaugural April weekend and the first weekend in May, the park held its annual Quassy Cares Neighbors in Need Weekends that offered discounted all-day ride wristbands in exchange for a contribution of a non-perishable food or home cleaning item.
