UPDATED: On June 23, New Jersey Governor Murphy announced his plan to allow amusement and water parks to re-open as early as July 2. Parks will be able to operate at 50% capacity and employees and attendees are required to wear face coverings. To aid in proper social distancing, markers on the ground will be required to remind guests to stay 6 feet apart.
“It's just a coincidence that it's a scorcher outside today – but, today, we are announcing that outdoor amusement parks and water parks will be able to reopen next Thursday, July 2nd,” Murphy announced on Tuesday. “This includes the rides on our boardwalks.”
Outdoor games and mini golf attractions have already reopened at many Jersey Shore locations.
“Those are part of the norm going forward. But with next week's July 4th holiday weekend rapidly approaching, and with families rightfully looking for ways to enjoy their time off together, we wanted to make it known that, yes, the rides will be in operation,” Murphy said. “But, moreover, we want everyone to enjoy their time together responsibly.”
The governor did not mention fairs, festivals, or carnivals in his press conference. The governor is expected to release more information during his press conference on Wednesday, June 24.
